3. _C_h_a_n_g_e_s__a_n_d__A_d_d_i_t_i_o_n_s
It is important to note that as of _r_e_l_e_a_s_e _5._0 (shipped with
IRIX 6.5.17), the tools and processes available in the
InSight product family can no longer read the older format
of the books (pre-IRIX 6.5.17). Many of the tools
(_i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n, _s_g_i_h_e_l_p, _i_n_f_o_s_e_a_r_c_h) will produce a warning
that identifies these "older" books and indicates that they
need to be updated or converted. Information on converting
"older" books to the newer format is documented in "Chapter
2 - Converting Older Format Books", a part of these release
notes.
Overall product changes:
+o The IRIS InSight Viewer and the Dynaweb product
(dynaweb.sw.eoe) are no longer required and have been
discontinued. The "insight" application exists solely
as a process that launches InfoSearch.
+o Online books are now delivered in HTML format - derived
from XML through our publishing process. These same
tools are available for you to use as part of the
_i_n_s_i_g_h_t__d_e_v (SGI Book Building Tools) product.
+o Books can now be read/browsed using a standard web
browser. See "Chapter 2 - Reading Online Books" in
these release notes for details.
+o For additional information pertaining to the online
documentation capabilities of your SGI system, please
consult the _i_n_s_i_g_h_t__b_a_s_e and _i_n_f_o_s_e_a_r_c_h release notes.
SGIHelp has the following _n_e_w features:
+o SGIHelp now uses an instance of the WebViewer library
(webviewer.sw.eoe), which allows it to view HTML "help"
books/pages directly, without having to launch an
external web browser, such as netscape.
+o Along with the ability to view HTML "help" books,
SGIHelp has undergone a user interface redesign. No
longer are there 2 distinct windows (previously called
the "Index" window and the "Viewer" window). Instead
these have been collapsed into one window, with the use
of panes and other controls.
+o The ability to find and browse through the applications
or products that have Help available on the system
(File -> Available Application/Product Help).
- 2 -
+o The ability to set bookmarks on specific help
cards/pages.
+o The ability to "pin-up" a viewer. This allows the user
to keep one help card/page "static", while utilizing
the main window to continue to navigate amongst other
help cards/pages.
+o An expanded print function; allowing a user to print
the entire set of help cards/pages for an application.
+o Better navigation controls, including back/forward
arrows and a "quick-help" status line (which can be
turned "on" or "off" under the Options menu).
